Specialized is a brand of bicycles and components made by and for cyclists. For them, we set ourselves the goal of returning to the biker community with an app in which to enhance their passion.

Our challenge began ​​with building a new biker community. We wanted to use all available technology, such as the accelerometer and geolocation, to deliver real-time connections and monitor routes.

To do this, we created a design concept that enhances both the usability of the application and the visual and incorporates a gamification capacity.

 

Data visualisation

We focus on enhancing the application’s user experience by improving the display of metrics on the bike through a data history in which users can compare and improve their training with as much detail as possible.

The app is very intuitive, with simple flows based on swipes, which optimises its use during the race.

Scalability

What can we provide cyclists with? A mobile interface design that is 100% scalable to wearables and other devices to extend its possibilities. From taking care of nutrition to measuring stamina to choosing the best times to make your routes and challenge the rest of the community.

Phygital experience

What do cyclists need? Are they urban, highway, or mountain? We carried out guerrilla research to incorporate into our concept the expectations, motivations and fears of bikers that would help us define the best transmedia experience that connects the bike to its app and that would be really useful and stimulating.

Graphic language

Understanding the data quickly and efficiently was the main challenge. We present distinct colours for each parameter, intuitive graphs and data to improve both at specific points of the race and globally.
